  Islamic Finance: The Business and the Moral Case
for Current and Future Business Leaders

The interest towards Islamic Finance is growing at a fast pace for business students, academics, practitioners and leaders.
Celia de Anca, PhD, Director of the Centre for Diversity in Global Management at IE Business School in Madrid, will analyse the reasons why there is a number of Business Schools that are introducing Islamic Finance in their curricula. Celia will mention the fact that Islamic Finance industry is a niche in the market that is growing at a tremendous speed. The industry is still young and open to new innovations and therefore financial students can provide the innovation for the industry’s needs. It can also be desirable a deeper understanding of some of the elements of Islamic Finance, which might help in shaping the debate on the new financial order after the recent markets’ turmoil.
Usman Hayat, CFA, FRM, Director of Islamic Finance and ESG at CFA Institute in London, will approach the topic of Islamic Finance by sharing the perspectives of some of the thoughts of leaders, academics and practitioners in Islamic Finance and how elite news outlets are reporting on the sector. Usman will mention the evolution of modern Islamic Finance, the expectations and debates that surround it, and the challenges and opportunities it faces.

2013 Fund Management Challenge

CFA Society Italy is launching the second edition of the Fund Management Challenge (FMC), a five month competition ending in May 2013 in which student teams from Italian universities have the opportunity to create and manage a virtual equity portfolio as if they were hedge fund or portfolio managers. The student portfolios will be concentrated, and the competition will be performance based. The FMC is a unique opportunity for students across Italy to learn the importance of market ethics as well as the joys and perils of portfolio management through hands-on experience.
